Rainy Afternoon

Rain Rain Go Away

I don’t know about you, but these chilly, rainy days sure make me tired. It doesn’t help that I didn’t get my full (at least) seven hours of sleep last night. I am a sleep wimp. Ha. Seriously! It’s so pathetic, I literally start shutting down at around 9 p.m. every night. I am a totally different person at night versus in the morning. If you met me for the first time in the morning, you would see I’m outgoing, talkative, fun loving. If you meet me past 8 p .m. (especially after a long day – having gotten up at 4:30 a. m.) you would think that I am a total mute. Ask those who know me, they will tell you, I hit a point where I will completely stop talking. I can’t even control it. My tiredness owns me at that point and all I can think about is my pillow! 😉

This afternoon, the rain is causing me to drag a bit. I have boot camp in an hour, so I better snap outta this sleepiness. Some days, it’s the rain that makes you tired… some days it’s your circumstances.

I love the song by Skillet, “You Are My Hope.” I hadn’t heard it in a while, but when it came on today I remembered how TRUE the words are, and it really spoke to me. Cuz even in the little things (like dragging your tired butt to boot camp) He is your strength!

So whether you are tired from the rain today, or tired from life’s trials…. listen to You Are My Hope, and be strengthened!

And the Nominees go to…

It’s Friday, Friday gotta get down on Friday!” Are you annoyed with me yet? 😉

So, this morning some coworkers and I decided to chip in and purchase lottery tickets as a group for the big Mega Millions Jackpot. Splitting $540-million between the 15 of us leaves us with $36-million each. I’ll take it!

Let’s see… what would I do with my earnings? Probably buy a huge house, take a trip, get myself a new fancy car (transmission trouble-free), and give of course! 😉 The first thing I would probably do is book some tickets to Europe and travel all over France and Italy. Who knows? Maybe next week I’ll be blogging from a little café under the Eiffel Tower. Ah… one can only dream!

Workout (and a carb)

This morning I did interval training on the stationary bike. It was 28 minutes at level three. Left me feeling pretty good, like I worked out pretty hard, so I decided I deserved some extra carbs. On my way to work (after my oatmeal and egg whites) I picked up a Zingerman’s 9-grain bagel to eat as a morning snack.

I never get to participate in the bagel club at work anymore, but with the healthy 9-grain I got to actually “chew the dough” with the rest of them. I figured, yea… it’s a little cheating, but mostly ok. 😉

I am slightly addicted to these Fuze drinks now. That, and Vitamin Water. I really like all the vitamins and minerals they have, as well as the fact that they don’t contain any aspartame or junk. Well, Vitamin Waters (the zero calorie ones) contain Stevia. Which, is a natural sweetener, and to my current knowledge, is considered ok/safe?

Now, for the Nominees of the Liebster Award

(I have chosen 4 blogs for now… I will add my fifth shortly.) 🙂

The first award, I would like to give to Maria! Now, Maria, she may or may not have over 200 followers, I am not sure. However, her blog has been very inspirational to me. She writes about MUFFINS (which I love – they are even low carb), fitness, weight loss, motherhood, and her love for the Lord. She is my kind of gal. If I ever go to MN, I’d love to meet her in person. Check her out at Maria Makes Muffins.

The second award I am giving to Cravings Gone Clean. Again, not sure how many followers she has (who is really counting?) but her blog has amazing recipes. I am always looking for clean eating ideas, and she has them! Her blogs are full of gorgeous pictures that make your mouth drool. Her recipes are exactly what she claims; “Definitely tasty. Surprisingly healthy.”

The third award goes to a great blog – Faith and Fitness Embrace. This guy is real. He is a Christian who brings a healthy balance to faith and fitness. He is motivational, encouraging, and open about what happens when you put idols (such as fitness) in your life about the Lord. He is full of knowledge (his degree is in health and fitness) and can be a great source of training tips. He will help you keep your priorities in check, while motivating you to keep your temple healthy. Be encouraged and check him out!

The fourth and final award (for now) goes to Judy, “The Jesus Mommy”. I recently discovered her blog, and shares her journey of faith as well as motherhood. She has adorable kids, and teaches them the ways of the Word. Her blog is packed full of scripture and I LOVE that! Stop over and see her at What Kind of Mother are you?

Well, I hope you are all enjoying your Friday!!!

Be Blessed!

Liebster Award!

Last night, some friends and I went to see Need To Breathe in concert. It was good; different then what I expected, but good. I had only heard a few of their songs and I thought they were known as a “Christian” band, but they are more just “Rock.” To me they sounded like a cross between Kid Rock and Cold Play.

We found a spot with a ledge near the back of the theater, right in front of the lights and sound booth. It was a good spot, but the sound dude was burning incense and it was making us a little sick. It was fun nonetheless…

Due to getting home so late, and going to bed at 1 a.m., I skipped my morning cardio session.

Yesterday’s Workout

Speaking of working out, yesterday morning I went to the fitness center to get my elliptical on, and the security alarm was going off. It was blaring seriously loud! Needless to say, I did not stay to work out. 😦 I went home and did some arm weights.

My routine was:

3 Sets of 15 Reps
Shoulder Press (on medicine ball)
Shoulder Flys (on medicine ball)
Laying down triceps’ extensions

1 Min Rest

3 Sets of 15 Reps
Hammer Curls
Standing Shoulder Press
Triceps Chair Dips

1 Min Rest

3 Sets of 15 Reps
Standing Shoulder Flys (Alternating to the front, then to the sides)
Alternating Shoulder Press
Standing Triceps Extensions

Now on to more exciting news…

Liebster Award (‘Beloved Dearest or Favorite’)

I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award! Thank you Bethany! I am so honored.

The Liebster Award is for bloggers who have inspired you, and have less then 200 followers.

This is how it works:

  1. Link back to the person who gave it to you and thank them.
  2. Post the award to your blog.
  3. Give the award to 5 bloggers with less than 200 followers that you appreciate and value (It’s a great way to get to word out there about other blogs!!)
  4. Leave a comment on the 5 blogs to let them know that they have received this award.

Bethany is a new friend I’ve met through WordPress. She is an avid lover of health, fitness and coffee as I am. She is a great writer, and always has the most interesting stories. She very deep and shares with us her intermost thoughts and feelings. I love how she takes her writings to the heart and soul. Check her out!

I have to head back to work now (bummer)… but don’t fret, I will be back later with my FIVE NOMINEES! 🙂

Monday Jeans

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a nice weekend. I did, but I am SO tired today.  So tired that I slept in and didn’t do my cardio this morning.  I don’t know if it’s because the weather has turned chilly again, (BOO!) but I feel like I could just close my eyes and sleep for hours!  I better work up some energy somehow.  Still much of the day ahead, and boot camp in 5 hours.  I also better put some extra effort in since I missed my cardio!  Right now I don’t even think I could do one lunge if I tried.  Ugh.  Hopefully my decaf caribou and dark chocolate square can wake me up.

Jean Size

So as the kind guy behind the counter was filling up my coffee, I happen to notice his jean size; 36-34 to be exact.  Kind of made me laugh.  Not because that is a bad size, but because I know his size.  How sad is that… I mean seriously! A complete stranger should not know these things right?!?  Thank goodness my jeans do not have the size printed on the back.  I wonder who the genius at Levi’s is that came up with that idea anyway.  Oh well….

I guess I should head back to the office soon.

Sorry my post is lame today.  I am just too tired… and perhaps a bit slap happy! 🙂

Questions of the day:

Are YOU tired today?

Do you wear Levi’s jeans with your size printed on the back? 😉

Sunday Morning

Good Morning!

I just had a little photo shoot. I am sitting in the local coffee shop and I looked up out the window and saw my dad, standing on the street, getting pictures of the downtown. I got up, tried banging on the window; of course he didn’t hear me. I went outside and flagged him down. He then snapped a few shots of me out there. Maybe if they are good, I’ll post them.

I should post more of his pictures actually. They are awesome. My dad has taken up photography as a hobby, and his work is amazing.

I got up this morning and headed for the gym (after my Shakeology/spinach smoothie).

I jumped on the elliptical and programmed in a custom interval workout. I set it for 30 minutes, doing 30 seconds of sprinting at maximum heart rate followed by 90 seconds of rest. It wasn’t too hard actually, and the time went by super fast. I think I may have to kick it up a bit next time.

I followed the elliptical training with 10 minutes on the bike. I set the bike at level 4 and kept my heart rate up to about 80%.

Overall, it was a great workout and I was drenched in sweat at the end. Mission accomplished. 😉

Waiting on the Lord

After my workout I watched Charles Stanley, like I try to do every Sunday morning as I get ready for church. This morning it felt like he was talking directly to me.

There are a few things in my life that I have been waiting on the Lord for. Things that I have been waiting for for a loooong time! Things that often leave me heavy-hearted and confused and sometimes wondering, has the Lord forgotten about me?

This morning, Charles reminded me of the truth in my situation.

The truth is, God’s timing is perfect. He is sovereign and in control, and His time-table is not our time-table. He desires to give good things to His children, and He wants to give us His best. He PROMISES to give us His Best IF we wait on Him.

We are often tempted to jump ahead of His plan when we feel like we’ve waited too long, and we just cannot stand it any longer. But jumping ahead of His timing compromises His perfect plan for our life. Though we may have gotten what we thought we wanted, it will surely bring us disappointment if it wasn’t from Him.

Psalm 37:44 says, “Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed. “

It brings me joy to know that my waiting is not in vain. The Lord knows exactly where I am at, what my desires are, and what is BEST for me. If I feel like I cannot wait any longer; He will give me strength.

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

As you go about your Sunday, and if you are waiting on God for something in your life as I am, remember His truth. Remember He cares. He knows your hearts desires, and if you put your hope in Him, and wait for His best, He WILL bless you.

So cling to His Word… and do not lose hope – “Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” Psalm 27:14

I am off to church…

Transmission – FAIL !

I got some bad news yesterday. Apparently, my car needs a new transmission; or so the dealership says. The good thing is, this is covered under factory warranty (2 yr old Hyundai, only 36k miles). The bad thing is, they want to put a re-manufactured transmission in. That just makes me mad.

First off, there is no reason for a transmission to go bad on a practically brand new car. Second of all, if it does, and it is under factory warranty (not to mention I had purchased the extended bumper to bumper warranty), then why are they giving me a refurbished one? I mean, what?… will I be driving around with a transmission that had already had 5o, 60, 70 thousand miles on it? Grrrrr!!!!

Maybe I just have really bad “transmission luck.” After my transmission died two years ago on my 1999 A4 Audi Quattro (loved that car), I decided to get something brand new, reliable, and known for good quality. Hyundai had great reports, awesome warranty, and fit the “german styling” that I liked.

I mean, I was thoroughly bummed when my trans died on my Audi, but that had 168k miles on it (much easier to accept then on a car with 36k miles). I tried to fix it at the time, and the repair shop put in a used transmission, and it was an epic fail. Even after they replaced it, I was dealing with major issues, failures, leaks, etc. for three months. The last straw was when it crapped out on me on a major highway. Talk about scary! Finally, I demanded my money back (it was a pretty penny… let me tell you), and sold it with the bad trans, and jumped into the Hyundai.

Sooooo… here I am, in the new car… dealing with this again. Do I have like some “transmission curse” or something? 😦

I think I am going to go car shopping today, just for fun. Keep my options open. I kinda want to trade the car in now just to spite them. I don’t know, am I out of line? Do these things just happen? Should I be satisfied with the “transmission replace” even though it’s re-manufactured?

No Workout

Despite the fact that it would be nice to pound out my frustrations, I actually skipped my workout this morning. I was debating, but you know I’ve been doing twice a day for a week now (mornings cardio, evenings boot camp/training) and I felt it would probably be a good to take a day off.

Why is it so hard to take a day off? Ha. Most people would probably enjoy skipping a day, but I literally had to hold myself back from heading to the fitness center this morning. I’m even half thinking about going to boot camp at 10:oo a.m. But…. I did boot camp last night so two in less than 24 hours is probably not so good.

Oh well, I will enjoy my free morning. 😉

Penny & Posy

I think Pen and Pos are happy that I am actually home chilling this morning. Normally, I’m on the go so much. When I am home, they get, what I call “desperate for attention batensions.” I know, weird. I like to make up words! 😉

Posy has decided lay down next to me… on my table!

PenPen is standing up, pawing at my leg. She is just like a dog. 😉

Questions of the morning:

Have you ever had a bad experience with a new car, and how was it handled (and how did you handle it)? 😉

Do you feel the same as I do about “rest days”? Are you tempted to get your ‘workout on’ regardless?

P90 Ache

Good morning!

I decided to give the cardio a rest this morning and work in some strength training. I did the P90X Arms & Shoulders workout. I’ve only did this once before and as I recall the next day, I felt it pretty good!

I’m sure there’s a lot of us out there, not just me, who actually enjoy that “ache” following the workout. The soreness is kind if like your badge of honor… Telling you you’ve accomplished something. 😉

This morning I have to take my car in to the dealership for a ‘bulletin’ item to get fixed. When I make left turns, my steering wheel will ‘click’ as the wheel turns back to straight. It’s pretty annoying; it’s done this ever since I bought the car new in 2010, so it will be nice to have that gone.

I am killing time at Starbucks until the dealership opens. That’s not such a bad deal… I get to actually come to Starbucks and chill out before work. I never get to do this!

On to my reading…

Have a great day everyone!

Interval Training

Good Afternoon!

I just got out of the dentist. Oh the fun! I went back to wearing my Invisalign in hopes that one stubborn lil tooth would move to where I want it. I had finished my “case” over a year ago, but still wanted some tweaking. We shall see if the “dimple” my dentist added to my aligners will actually work!

Interval Training

So I’ve been reading a lot lately on interval training. What is the difference between interval training and regular cardio training?

Interval training uses “cycles” of intensity more or less. There are short burst of all-out, huffing-puffing sprints mixed with slower, more restful recovery periods. The point is to get your heart rate to shoot up to it’s peak for a short while, and then to bring it back down to a more moderate intensity to recover and get your energy back for the short burst to follow.

It is said that interval training allows you to get the same benefit, or more, in shorter amounts of time. You can do 20-25 minutes of interval training and get the same benefit of doing a longer period of sustained cardio.

With interval training, you increase your anabolic threshold so that your body is exercising at such a hard rate that your blood supply cannot supply oxygen to your muscles fast enough. This will create a build up of lactic acid in the muscles which in turn, leads to less muscle loss than regular cardio and builds new muscle fibers.

Because interval training is building new muscle fibers, it will increase your body’s ability to burn fat and carbohydrates. This leads to a greater amount of calories burned post exercise, verses the amount of calories burned during the exercise.

Who doesn’t want MORE fat and calories burned in a lesser amount of workout time? I know I sure do!

Also too, you can incorporate interval training into pretty much any cardio exercise. You can do intervals on the stationary bike, elliptical, treadmill, etc.

I’ve been alternating between interval sessions and regular cardio sessions in the mornings before work. The interval sessions are a lot harder, but I enjoy getting done quicker. And let me tell you… they get you! I am always – One. Sweaty. Mess.

Afternoon Snack

My afternoon snack fifth small meal of the day (I follow the ‘6 small meals a day’ plan) was peanut butter-spinach roll ups! They may sound a bit gross, but they are good! They are super simple. All you need is low carb tortillas, peanut butter, and raw spinach. Try it sometime! 🙂

Question of the afternoon:

Have you tried interval training, and if so, have you noticed better results with it than doing the longer-period cardio sessions?

In His Presence

Happy first day of spring!

We are looking at 81 degrees and sunshine here in Southeastern Michigan today.  Yeah-hoo!

I woke up early to get my cardio in before work.  I wasn’t really feeling it (maybe because I am STILL sick), and I totally wanted to just phone-in, but I am glad I stuck it out.  I only did 25 minutes on the bike, but when you do the interval training, it can really kick your boo-tang!

Speaking of training, I found out yesterday that I am loosing my personal trainer! 😦  Due to unforeseen circumstances, he is leaving the gym I work out at.  It makes me sad to lose him… and a little “freaked out.”  I am thinking: what am I going to do without his support and motivation?  Don’t get me wrong, I do love my boot camp classes, and my trainer for that is amazing too, and very motivational… but I really liked the variety and the one-on-one sessions.  Maybe I will up my boot camp classes per week, or add in some DVD workouts.  For now though, I am bummed.

Just To Be With You

My little cat Penny tried to barricade me in this morning when I went to leave for work.

She does this often.  When ever she catches wind that I’m about to leave, she will book it super fast down the stairs to try to beat me.  Her sister Posy does this too, only she doesn’t throw herself down against the door like Penny does.

Penny and Posy always like to be wherever I am at.  If I’m in the kitchen, they come in the kitchen.  If I’m in the bedroom, they come in the bedroom.  If I’m in the bathroom, they come in the bathroom.

When I take a shower, I can see them through the glass, just sitting there patiently; waiting for me, because they want to be where I’m at.

It makes me think that as a Christian, I should be like this with the Lord.  I should follow wherever He leads, and go wherever He goes… just to be with Him should make my heart content.

“You make known to me the path of life;

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”  Psalm 16:11

I am thankful for the sweet reminder from my little feline friends, that when you love your master, you wish nothing more than just to be in their presence.

Intelligence Perception Gets “Hairy”

Happy Monday!

What a fabulous weekend I had (despite being majorly stuffed up still from this cold). The weather was gorgeous, as it has been lately. I am surprised that this warm streak has not left us yet, but I am so glad it hasn’t!  Now if it would just stay like this through November, I’d be happy! 😉

Saturday morning’s boot camp class was a bit brutal. I was still pretty sore from my training session Thursday so had to cop-out a little bit during the “speed abs.” I hate having to back off and not finish, but my abs absolutely refused to continue on in the fun!

Saturday night my family and I met some friends for dinner at Aubree’s. I had never been there before and gosh, was it good! They have a really great Harvest Salad. Hit the spot!

Yesterday was communion at church. My pastor gave a great message on the Lord’s Supper and Christ defeating death. It was so awesome to be reminded that the grave is not our final destination. We have a hope and a future!

Last night I had some friends over for a pool night (don’t worry, it’s an indoor pool) and Mary Kay facials! We had a blast. Some days, girl time is just what you need.

I made raspberry-dark chocolate crepes for dessert. They were a hit!

Healthy Whole Wheat Crepes

    • 1 cup whole wheat flour
    • 4 egg whites
    • 1 cup almond milk (or any milk of your choosing)
    • pinch of salt
    • 3 stevia packets
    • 2 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. Whisk together flour, egg whites, milk, salt, stevia, vanilla extract, and applesauce in a large bowl until smooth.
  2. Lightly coat a skillet with cooking spray and place over medium heat
  3. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter into the pan and lift off of burner. Swirl batter around in pan so that it spreads to the edges.
  4. Return to medium heat and let sit about 2 mins. or until the bottom gets slightly brown.
  5. Flip crepe, and remove when opposite side is browned.

I served these with raspberry jam and dark chocolate in the center, with whip cream, strawberries, and dark chocolate bits on top and a side of strawberry cheesecake frozen yogurt.

Does My Long Hair Make Me Look Dumb?

Here is a random question for you all…Does long hair make a lady seem less intelligent?

I heard on the radio this morning that some study says it does indeed make women come across “less smart” if they have long hair. I am a bit offended as I’ve let my hair grow out in the last few months. Now obviously, hair length has nothing to do with someone’s intelligence, but how they “appear” to others, that is interesting. I know that a few years ago when I cut my hair shorter (too short for my liking) a coworker told me it was a good time to ask for a raise! I never did. Maybe I should have tried it. So should I cut my hair? Na! I’ll just stick with the long, ‘unintelligent’ look for now! 😉
